Training day ready

Before you attend

Six things to sort before the day

A little preparation takes the pressure off. Work through these in the days before your security training starts.

  1. Confirm your course date

Check the date and start time in your booking confirmation, and put them in your calendar with a reminder.

  2. Check the training location

Look up the venue address and any directions you have been sent, ideally before the day.

  3. Review the course information

Read through your course page and anything SGS has sent so that nothing about the day is a surprise.

  4. Prepare your documents

Gather the identification and paperwork your confirmation asks for and keep them together.

  5. Plan your journey

Work out your route and travel time, then allow extra for delays, especially at busy times.

  6. Watch for SGS messages

Check your email and messages in the days before, in case there are updates to your instructions.

What to bring

Your packing checklist

Tick items off as you pack. It is a personal prompt that stays in your browser, and nothing is sent to SGS.

Please note: Requirements may vary depending on your course. Please check your course confirmation for the latest instructions.

  6. Practical activities

Where your course includes them, you will practise skills with your trainer's guidance.

  7. Assessment

Your course will include assessment. Your trainer will explain what applies to you.

Training-day questions answered

Bring appropriate photo identification, your course confirmation and anything else your confirmation asks for. A notebook and pen are handy for your own notes. Requirements may vary depending on your course. Please check your course confirmation for the latest instructions.

Aim to arrive comfortably ahead of the start time given in your course confirmation, so that you can find the room, register and settle in without rushing. The confirmation is the definitive source for timings.

You will normally be welcomed, checked in and shown to your training room. Your trainer will then introduce themselves and the day. Exact arrangements can differ between courses and venues.

Choose comfortable, practical clothing that suits a day of classroom learning and, where your course includes them, practical activities. Smart casual is a sensible starting point. If your course has specific requirements they will be in your confirmation.

Contact SGS as soon as you know you are running late, using the details in your confirmation or our contact page. Tell us roughly when you expect to arrive so that we can advise on what is possible.

Some courses ask for pre-course steps, and if yours does it will say so in your confirmation. Otherwise, reading your course information and planning your journey is a good start. Our ACT Training guide explains optional awareness e-learning you may find useful.

This depends on the course and, for some courses, on the awarding body or the SIA, so check your confirmation first. In general, expect to need photo identification, and bring any other documents the confirmation lists. Requirements may vary depending on your course. Please check your course confirmation for the latest instructions.

Your course confirmation and any messages from SGS contain the date, venue and instructions for your booking. If you cannot find them, contact SGS and we will point you in the right direction.

Get in touch through the SGS contact page. Please include the course name and date you booked so that we can help quickly.
